Some of our biggest projects have started from the ground up — building new D2C functions, setting up systems, and guiding teams to scale with confidence.

A heritage brand entering D2C for the first time.

MKT Works supported Bell Lighting in building a direct-to-consumer business from scratch — creating a new legal entity, implementing a scalable operational model, and setting out a clear sales strategy. This marked a major step for a 105-year-old business rooted deeply in the B2B sector.

The work spanned every stage of delivery: launching on Amazon and B&Q, implementing a new WMS, optimising PPC and retail media, developing new retail brand identities, training internal staff, and aligning warehouse operations with e-commerce demands.

Today, Bell has a functioning D2C arm that’s not only active across Amazon and B&Q, but also expanding into eBay, Tesco and Debenhams — a complete shift from their traditional B2B roots.

Launching and scaling a portfolio of premium beverages.

Fab Group Ventures engaged MKT Works to deliver a full wraparound service for their growing portfolio — from Premium British Tonic Water to a variety of other premium beverages. Support spans every stage of growth: Amazon account setup, PPC and retail media, social media and email marketing, and the development of cohesive brand websites.

Beyond launch, MKT Works provides weekly marketplace and marketing support, ensuring each brand doesn’t just enter the market but builds lasting momentum. With multiple beverage categories in play, FGV now has a scalable framework to expand consistently across channels.

From Passion Project to Scalable Business

Built from a spare room to a global customer base, Gamer’s Cove started as a small independent retailer with a modest investment and a niche focus in the competitive used electronics market. Within just a few years, it grew into a six-figure business trading internationally.

This was Andy’s own venture — a business he built with his own investment, giving him first-hand experience of the pressures, risks and rewards that come with growing a company.

He drove the growth through strategic planning, clever pricing optimisation, and operational efficiencies. He expanded sales channels, streamlined processes, and positioned the brand competitively in a fast-moving category.

The success came from hands-on leadership across every area of the business — purchasing, sales, customer service, fraud prevention and marketing — combined with strong supplier and logistics partnerships. Gamer’s Cove became proof that with the right blend of passion, strategy and execution, even the smallest start-up can scale into a sustainable business with an international presence.
With over 20 years of experience in retail, e-commerce and marketplaces, here are some of the standout moments from Andy’s career that shaped how MKT Works delivers today.

From start-up to industry leader.

When Andy joined, Money Cruncher was a fledgling and loss-making B2C subsidiary with no identity or brand name, struggling to make its mark. Over five years, he built the brand and the business into one of the UK’s top sellers on Amazon and eBay.

He created the Money Cruncher brand from scratch, and through smart strategy, refreshed product and retail branding, operational improvements and tighter financial controls, transformed the business into a Top 25 seller on both Amazon and eBay. Revenues grew from £400k (at a net loss) to over £12m within five years, with profitability stronger than the parent company despite achieving only half its turnover.

Along the way, Andy built and led a global team, introduced tech-driven systems to boost efficiency, and delivered consistent year-on-year cost savings alongside sales growth.

Scaling through smart PPC, partnerships and exclusivity.

As part of the Buy It Direct Group, Andy played a key role in scaling the £20m marketplace arm of a £250m+ multi-brand e-commerce business. He accelerated sales growth from an average of 25% YOY to over 140% monthly growth by introducing smarter PPC campaigns, optimising listings and building exclusive brand partnerships.

During his tenure, marketplace sales surged — peaking at £260k per day on Amazon during seasonal highs. Andy also negotiated reduced fees with platform partners, unlocking £30m of additional stock at competitive prices and positioning Buy It Direct as the go-to promoted seller for Apple products. He further secured exclusivity deals with brands including Lenovo, Swann and Bristan, strengthening the group’s position as an authorised re-seller.

In addition, he supported the launch of new product lines in furniture and homewares, rapidly increasing cross-sale revenue and expanding the group’s reach across multiple categories.

Transforming charity e-commerce.

The British Heart Foundation needed to scale its fledgling online sales operation for donated stock. Starting from £175k per year on eBay alone, Andy expanded it rapidly across multiple marketplace channels within just 12 months.

From a base of two employees, he built and managed a 21-strong team across warehouse, admin and customer services. He streamlined processes, led supplier renegotiations to cut costs on postage and packaging, and developed efficient systems for stock inbounding from the charity’s nationwide store network.

He also delivered training sessions to store, area and regional managers across the UK, embedding best practice and securing buy-in from front-line teams. The result was a blueprint that proved other charities could also operate successfully in the sector, using marketplaces to generate significant new revenue streams.

Retail & HR Experience That Sets Us Apart

Alongside marketplace expertise, Andy brings extensive experience in retail management, HR leadership and customer-facing operations. From managing P&Ls for Sainsbury’s and multi-site Dyson concessions, to overseeing multi-site locations for tech start-ups, he has led teams that consistently exceeded sales and performance targets, regardless of product.

At group level, Andy built a global HR function for a £45m SME employing over 100 staff. This included implementing a new HRIS, creating policy and contracts, redesigning training programmes, and embedding performance management frameworks across the business. He also led recruitment at every level — from store teams to board appointments — and successfully managed complex employee relations including redundancies and union negotiations.

This combination of retail, HR and operational expertise ensures MKT Works delivers strategies that are not only commercially strong, but also practical, people-focused and built to last.
Not every project needs a full-scale build. These examples show how we’ve stepped in with focused support to solve problems, unlock opportunities and deliver quick wins.

Diversifying revenue beyond the core offering.

MKT Works supported a services provider looking to expand beyond domestic and commercial cleaning. We carried out a full commercial and budget review, then created a 360° sales strategy that interconnected new service, training and product opportunities to unlock sustainable growth.

Financial planning for investment readiness.

MKT Works supported a start-up in the food industry, run by sector experts but new to financial planning. We built a clear 12-month budget and cashflow forecast, giving them the confidence to plan effectively and secure the right level of investment for launch.

Streamlining stock management for growth.

MKT Works supported an independent retailer transitioning from spreadsheets to a scalable stock management system. By guiding them through the selection and implementation of a WMS-light solution, we improved accuracy, freed up admin time, and enabled the team to focus on sales and customer service.

Branding and commercial support for a new venture.

MKT Works supported a young entrepreneur establishing an in-house café concept in Manchester. We provided guidance across branding, marketing and pricing strategy, while also assisting with business setup, including banking and financial planning, to create a sustainable foundation.

Building people processes without the overhead.

MKT Works supported a growing SME that wanted to professionalise its HR approach without hiring a full in-house team. We delivered contracts, performance frameworks and recruitment guidance, ensuring their people were managed effectively and the business was set up to scale sustainably.
